BLTMS band commentary added to store

This is a full length 11 song cd that follows the songs and sequence of the new Choir disc, Burning Like The Midnight Sun. Steve, Derri,Tim, Marc and Dan offer commentary and insight on the the music, lyrics and stories behind each song on the entire project. Great stories and interesting comments and perspectives as they also answer questions submitted by listeners. Think of it like the commentary special editions on dvd movies or tv shows where the directors or actors talk about the project while viewing the show.  This would be the audio version of that.  You can choose between a CD being mailed to you or you can save some shipping/handling charges and order the digital download version.  Click on the "store" link and scroll down to either version.  There's a sample of the first track at www.thechoirdownloads.com if you would like to check out how it sounds.  We're really pleased with how it turned out and hope you'll add it to your collection.

The Choir Returns With 12th Studio Disc, Burning Like the Midnight Sun

The Choir Returns With 12th Studio Disc, Burning Like the Midnight Sun

Grammy Nominated Indie Rockers Deliver First Album In Five Years, Due June 29th and Featuring Cover Artwork By Noted New Orleans Visual Artist

June, 2010 - Nashville, TN – Making it an even dozen, iconic indie rock act The Choir announces the release of their 12th studio disc, Burning Like the Midnight Sun, on June 29th. Produced by band members Steve Hindalong and Derri Daughtery, the album was recorded and mixed at Daugherty’s Sled Dog Studio in Franklin, Tenn., and will be released on the band’s own Galaxy21 Music label.

Boasting a history that spans nearly three decades, The Choir features founders Hindalong and Daugherty along with long time members Dan Michaels and Tim Chandler, and once again Marc Byrd who produced the band’s ‘05 release O How the Mighty Have Fallen. This critically-acclaimed lineup continues to garner praise and accolades – including a Grammy nod -- long after most other bands have burned out or faded away.

“Perhaps more than any other album by The Choir, Burning Like the Midnight Sun integrates the musical personalities of all five individuals,” Hindalong says. “The recording process was smooth and satisfying. We’re thrilled to offer it to our listening friends.”

In recent months, the band has given fans a peek inside the recording process by releasing a series of “in the studio” videos online. The finished product, Burning Like the Midnight Sun, will be available physically online through www.thechoir.net and sold at live shows. It will also be available for download & streaming on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster and other digital service providers.

Always the innovators, the band continues to find new ways to get their music to the masses. Their die-hard fan base has already responded enthusiastically to pre-order packages that include a "director's cut" audio interview CD, mix stems so fans can create their own productions of the songs that the band will post and share online, as well as a VIP gathering at Michaels’ Nashville home featuring an acoustic concert, swim party and barbecue.

Complementing this beautiful new music is a cover image by New Orleans-based visual artist R.R. Lyon, known for using salvaged or reclaimed pieces of his own art that he re-contextualizes to give new purpose.

A note from Steve Hindalong

Dear friends,
Eleven more feathers are in the river. That is to say, our new album, Burning Like the Midnight Sun, has been recorded, mixed, mastered and delivered (along with the cover art) to that mysterious entity called "the manufacturer." I'm told (and I believe!) it will be available to you, our devoted listeners, on June 28. It's been 5 years since O How the Mighty Have Fallen. Thanks for waiting around the bend! (Admittedly, this "river" metaphor feels a bit contrived; but now that I've got no more lyrics to write... Well, it's hard to dam the flow.)

Tim played the bass with unrivaled melodious fury. Buckeye Dan Michaels (from Akron Ohio) played lyricon and sax (best since Chase the Kangaroo if not EVER). Marc rendered his distinctive ambient, trippy-slidy guitar beauty. Derri's vocals have rarely been more emotive - and his guitar work - magical! And as if it's not outrageous enough that I'm offering my own rave review of our own album before it's even "out"... I'll risk going even further by asserting what will soon be undeniable - The drum tracks are smokin'!

Seriously, we're just thrilled to "still be at it" after all these years. Thanks for riding the current with us. (Ah! Get a grip on that analogy compulsion, Steve!)

And thanks for listening.

Indie Hindie

In The Wake Of The Storm

Dear friends,
Thank you for your prayers.
Yes, it's been a surreal several days here in Nashville -- devastating to so many friends and neighbors whose homes have been severely damaged, even ruined by the unprecedented flood. Water poured in on Derri from a terribly leaky roof (Rare, it seems, was the roof that didn't leak!) but buckets and towels (and plastic over his gear) served to prevent significant harm. The Byrds were less fortunate.
Water rose above floor level and the damage is extensive. Such is the situation for thousands of families. Mary, an elderly lady at the bottom of our street, cried at the sight of her home of 50 years -- immersed to window level -- all she owns still inside. But her dogs are safe! And we are profoundly reminded in the throes of such crisis that it's the health and safety of the ones we hold dear that truly matters. Any material possession is trivial by comparison. But that's an easy observation for me to make -- since my home is atop a hill.
Need is overwhelming in the wake of the storm. But Lots of good folks are helping -- and praying. God is love and ever in our midst.
Steve
